Why Stainless Steel?

Long lasting with low maintenance

Stainless steel is low maintenance, needing nothing more than occasional cleaning. Well-polished stainless steel will last 100+ years without replacement, making it a solid and reliable investment.

Polishing and finishing

Different polishes & finishes are available depending on the job. We use manual polishing machines with different grits of mops and wheels to get different results such as:

  • Mirror finish (Super yachts / high-end residential)

  • High polish (Handrails)

  • Satin finish (Inside decorative / semi-commercial)

  • Scotch brite finish (Commercial kitchens & other areas where aesthetics is not a major issue)

What is Stainless Steel?

Stainless steel is an iron based material with several alloys added to give specific properties, the main two are chromium and nickel. Some of these good properties include, reasonably high tensile strength, excellent weldability and good malleability.

Type 304—the most common grade (18% chromium, 8% nickel) stainless steel.

Type 316—the second most common grade (after 304) Alloy addition of molybdenum prevents specific forms of corrosion. It is known as marine grade stainless steel due to its increased resistance to chloride corrosion compared to type 304. 316 is often used for building nuclear reprocessing plants.

The shine and excellent corrosion resistance of stainless steel is caused when the chromium in the material mixes with the oxygen in the atmosphere and produces very fine passive chromium oxide film on the surface, 3-5mm or about 15 layers of atoms thick.

Stainless steel is highly resistant to corrosion only when the surface is finely ground and polished to make the microscopic pits in the surface as small as possible. When these pits are too large, small particles can settle and block the surface from oxygen and stop the passive layer from forming, allowing for corrosion to start.
